Nordic walking, as the name suggests, comes to us from the Nordic countries, and more specifically from Finland. For the record, this sporting discipline was initially developed totrain cross-country ski champions who needed to replace skiing on snow in the off-season with a similar discipline, which is how this activity came to be known as ski walking.

How to calculate the number of calories burned with Nordic walking

The result displayed is expressed in Kcal and is calculated using the MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task). The MET for each activity is the result of statistical data and cannot therefore be interpreted as an exact calculation, but rather as an estimate taking into account the MET value and the ratio between the time spent doing an activity and the weight of the individual.

For example: The MET value for Nordic walking is 5. This means that a person who does Nordic walking with sticks consumes 5 times more energy than when resting. This varies, of course, with the level of intensity, as we’ll see below.
